Ocular Morbidity in Maasai Primary School Children:

Illuminating a Path to Eye Health

At CRK Foundation, we are deeply committed to extending our reach and impact to remote and underserved communities. Our project, "Ocular Morbidity in Maasai Primary School Children," stands as a testament to our dedication to improving eye health and overall well-being among the Maasai children in the remote region of Kajiado County, Kenya.

It is a community project to assess the nature and extent of ocular morbidity amongst the ( Maasai ) Primary school children in SW Kenya ( Kajiado West sub County). Treatment for minor conditions will be provided and a the referral for serious pathological issues. Through the ‘eye health talk.’ we will be able to create awareness about eye diseases and building the teachers’ capacity to identify some of these conditions and refer to the health facilities to avoid complications.

Targeted population:

We will target 750 Primary school children (375 girls, 375 boys), Grades 1 8, ages 5 18 yrs. in Kajiado West sub-County in 60 randomly selected schools over an area of 7,800 sq. km. will be visited during a period of approximately 10 to 11 weeks, during the academic Term (Jan. April 2023)

Through our "Ocular Morbidity in Maasai Primary School Children" project, we aspire to bring a clear vision and brighter futures to the young Maasai students. By addressing ocular morbidity and promoting eye health, we enable these children to excel in their studies, engage in daily activities, and look forward to a life with improved overall well-being.
